Cowboy Envy appears on August 22

Tennessee Valley Theatre in Spring City presents Cowboy Envy on Friday, August 22, at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $10 ($5 Children). For reservations, call 365-PLAY.
Cowboy Envy, in the tradition of the original singing cowboy, performs Western music from the thirties and forties. Drawing upon the repertoires of such artists as Roy Rogers, Sons of the Pioneers, Gene Autry, and others, each member of Cowboy Envy brings a variety of influences to the presentation of this music. Their voices blend as beautifully as the Andrews sisters, but their sound is bolstered by a strong strumming guitar and bass and punctuated by a healthy dose of rollicking abandon and humor.
The band, composed of Berné Poliakoff, DeDe Vogt, and Kathleen Hatfield, was formed when the three musicians - all well-established local performers - decided it would be fun to join forces and harmonize on classic cowboy tunes like "Cool Water" and "Tumbling Tumbleweeds." They are known respectively as Frenchy, TooShort, and Buffalo K. They can sing (even yodel), and their original compositions sidle right up next to traditional tunes like good cowhands should".
“People of our generation who have kids tell us they want their children to hear this kind of music because that's what they heard when they were little," Hatfield says. "And it seems to be so evocative - there's something about this music that brings back childhood associations and memories," she adds. "Before you know it, people will start talking about their first holster or cowboy hat or BB gun, or how they used to watch Roy Rogers and Dale Evans on TV."
